Introduction

Human Pass is a sign-in button that tells your site each account belongs to a different, real, verified person, without your site ever learning who that person is.

What you get

When someone signs in with Human Pass, your site receives:

  • verified_human: true: the person verified a government photo ID, with a live selfie matched to it, and no other Human Pass exists for that document.
  • sub: an ID for that person that's the same every time they sign in to your site, and different on every other site. Key your accounts on it, and one person can only ever have one account with you, and bans stick.
  • Optionally, with the person's consent: whether they're 21 or over, and the country and state that issued their ID (optional attributes).

What you never get

No name, no date of birth, no address, no document, no photo, no email address. There's nothing identifying to store, protect, or leak. Other sites get different IDs for the same person, so nobody can combine what they know about people across sites.

How it works

Human Pass is a standard OpenID Connect provider. Any certified OIDC library works.

StepWhat happens
1Your site sends the person to Human Pass (an authorization request with PKCE).
2They sign in, or create a Human Pass: an email, a password or passkey, then a one-time ID check.
3The first time, they agree to share with your site.
4Human Pass sends them back with a code; your server exchanges it for an ID token with sub and verified_human.
5From then on it's an ordinary sign-in: no new ID check, on your site or any other.

Who it's for

Anywhere fake or duplicate accounts cost you: communities fighting ban evasion and bots, giveaways and referral programs, marketplaces, dating, polls and votes, and AI products with free tiers. It's built for "one person, one account", not for knowing who someone is: if the law requires you to identify your users, you need a regular identity check.

Next steps

The Human Pass sandbox is live for demos and testing integrations; production is coming soon. Interfaces may still change; we'll give notice of anything that breaks an integration.
